Dimar Group Cuts Operation Time in Half with Zebra Intelligent Automation Solutions

Handheld devices with AI-powered dimensioning software deliver benefits across logistics and front-of-store operations

BOURNE END, England — April 28, 2025 Zebra Technologies Corporation (NASDAQ: ZBRA), a global leader in digitising and automating frontline workflows, today announced that Dimar Group has cut workflow times by up to 50% with a new intelligent automation solution built on a fleet of Zebra TC53 mobile devices with integrated Zebra Dimensioning Mobile Parcel software.

The Dimar Group employs over 4,000 people across 125 sales locations in Italy and owns more than 100 retail stores across the country, including supermarkets, mini-markets, hypermarkets, discount stores, and e-commerce services.

Its frontline logistics operators need precise external packaging and sub-packaging dimension measurements from suppliers with a high level of data accuracy and precise audits of product shipments so items are correctly stored in the warehouse and properly positioned on shop floors.

Previously, its operators were manually recording package dimensions, risking data entry errors and wasting time. To achieve the level of inventory accuracy and visibility needed, Dimar collaborated with Lexter Italia, a Zebra Premier Solutions Partner and Zebra Technologies.

“We wanted our logistics operations to be smarter and more automated, particularly for measuring the size of packages,” said Livio Bernocco, CIO, Dimar. “This visibility is essential for calculating and forecasting volumes of goods as well as optimising materials and their related management, transportation and associated costs.”

Dimar selected Zebra’s handheld TC53 mobile computers with integrated Zebra Dimensioning Mobile Parcel software built on time-of-flight sensor technology and Zebra’s proprietary artificial intelligence (AI) algorithms which work together to virtually reconstruct and measure items. The Mobile Parcel software can capture the dimensions of standard cuboidal parcels and irregular non-cuboidal items.

This intelligent automation solution gives workers access to information and applications required to efficiently manage logistics. It provides reliable shipping volume calculations and optimises costs and activities via a user-friendly, application programming interface (API) that integrates the capture of parcel dimensions into enterprise warehouse management systems.

“These AI-powered devices integrated with our management system allow Dimar to unify and improve data maintenance and eliminate manual data entry which has reduced our measurement times by 50%,” said Bernocco.

Each Zebra mobile computer registers up to 50 measurements per week; it simplifies and safeguards the quality of operational data with logistics portals automatically updated in real time. This enables more efficient and accurate goods storage and transportation as well as stock optimisation.

“Logistics teams play a key part in ensuring stores and consumers get what they need,” said Enzo Tumminaro, Country Director, Zebra Technologies. “Dimar has selected a solution that is making the job easier for workers and keeping customers happy. The right automation investment and partners can make a big impact on frontline operations.”

In the front of stores, Dimar introduced Zebra TC52 handheld computers for retail associates responsible for supermarket electronic labelling. Meanwhile, its store managers use Zebra TC21 and TC22 devices to receive information from stores, process the data with web services in real time and stay connected to each other.

The robustness and adaptability of Zebra’s software development kits (SDKs) enable Dimar to customise the application and features needed, and additional integrations provide Dimar with more functionality and greater control over point-of-sale terminals. The new solution also means simpler and faster enrolment, configuration, device fleet management, and software updates.

“Previously, the testing phase could last up to a month, but thanks to Zebra it was reduced to a week, and the new rollout enables us to manage devices in an automated, standardised way,” said Bernocco. “This is essential when each point of sale contains approximately 10 terminals, which when multiplied by 125 sales locations results in managing over a thousand devices.”
