Zebra’s focus is on providing a critical component of a total RFID solution—printer/encoders and supplies, which enable customers to create smart media that combine human-readable, bar code, and RFID tag data in existing formats. RFID data and functionality can be added to business processes that are already established, which can make the process of implementing RFID technologies go more smoothly. Although Zebra does not provide a complete solution, we partner with many key leaders in the RFID market, ensuring that our products work seamlessly with their offerings and support cutting-edge developments in the technology. Zebra’s RFID products are specifically integrated into SAP® and Oracle® ERP systems. As a result, no matter what the structure of your legacy IT environment, chances are very good that Zebra RFID solutions will offer the same outstanding performance and reliability as with bar coding.

Legacy bar code equipment cannot be updated to include RFID. With the emergence of RFID, many traditional bar code customers have indicated their desire to invest in bar code equipment today without risk of equipment obsolescence at the point in which they adopt RFID. In response, in early 2005, we introduced 110XiIIIPlus™ and 170XiIIIPlus™ models with an RFID Ready option, which allows incorporation/addition of RFID functionality into the traditional bar code printers at whatever point you wish to launch RFID in your organization. Although the RFID Ready option is no cost, the incorporation of RFID functionality would require purchase and installation of the RFID module/components, with a list price estimated at $2,995.

With the RFID Ready option, the module/components can be quickly and easily installed by an RFID-qualified field engineer. When you plan to migrate to RFID, the printer will be upgraded with a reader/encoder that will support the RFID protocols that are most current at the time of installation. The printer/encoder can then be Flash-upgraded to support emerging protocols.
